If, like many people, you are planning to install wooden shutters in your home, you may want to save some of your hard earned cash by measuring them yourself rather than getting a guy from the shutter company to come and measure them up for you.
This can save a lot of time and money as long as you know what you are doing as even a tiny mistake can cost you dear. There are companes like the California Shutter Company providing information on how to measure them up properly but it is largely common sense and as long as you are careful there should be no slip ups.
Firstly, don't do it in a rush. If you try and hurry up this process so that you can get them ordered quicker or be done in time for tea, you are asking for trouble. Take your time, indeed take the measurements two or three times to check what you have done and ensure they are correct.
Secondly, do it in the light. It needs careful attention and the room needs to be fully lit up, preferably by daylight, so that you can really see what you are doing. One small slip and the shutters will be useless.
A second pair of eyes is always handy too, so get your wife or partner to give you a hand to get it right.
